Doda::On the occasion of Human Rights Day an online extension lecture was organized today on 10 Dec. to aware and sensitise the students about the relevance of human rights. The lecture which was organised under aegis of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav with the theme "Women and Human Rights: An Indian Perspective" was delivered by Ms Prety Bhagat from the Centre for Political Studies JNU New Delhi. The whole event was managed and conducted by Dr Jamsheed Ahmad under the supervision of Dr Shafqat Hussain Rafiqi Principal GDC Chatroo.
In the beginning Dr Jamsheed Ahmad introduced the speaker and welcomed all the participants. He talked about the need of such events as the topics like human rights, global warming, peace, brotherhood and global citizenship form the core of NEP 2020.
In the lecture which was delivered through Zoom app and was attended by more than 40 participants Ms Prety discussed in detail the history behind this day, the basic concept of human rights and the position of Indian women with regard to the rights enjoyed by them. She further deliberated upon the issues of gender and presented data regarding the urgency of bringing women at par with men.
The event ended with a vote of thanks Dr Ashaq Hussain who thanked the speaker for sparing time to interact with the students of this far flung area. He further appreciated Dr Jamsheed Ahmad and other faculty members for keeping the college at par with the other colleges of the UT.
