Department of Environmental Sciences, GDC Bhaderwah celebrated International Mountain Day by organizing one day Trekking cum Awareness Programme

Doda::The Department of Environmental Sciences, Govt. Degree College (PG) Bhaderwah organized one day trekking cum awareness programme to celebrate International Mountain Day under the theme “Sustainable Mountain Tourism”. 

The trekking was conducted on the
 trekking route from Chinote Morh to Shankhoja (Malotha) and back traversing through dense tract of temperate deodar and kail forest area. The main aim of celebrating this occassion was to increase the awareness about value and need of protection of mighty mountains and preserve its natural heritage. It is to highlight that it plays an important role in attracting visitors in hill destinations like Bhaderwah.


A total of 30 students of GDC Bhaderwah of Environmental Sciences;14 trainees of forest department department; officials of forest department, faculty members of GDC Bhaderwah ( Dr. Abdul Rouf  Bhat, Mr. Sunil Singh, Mr. Tariq Ahmad, Mr. Rafiq Ahmad and Mr. Shamsher Singh) enthusiastically participated under the overall supervision of Prof. Anuradha Sharma, HOD Dept. of Environmental Sciences and Dr. Javid Manzoor, Lecturer in Environmental Sciences in the trekking. Sh. Fiaz Ahmed, an official from forest department, highlighted the contribution of mountain in socio-economic development, environmental sustainability and in the overall promotion of well-being of society. A detailed overview of majestic Himalayan peaks in Bhaderwah like Kaplas and receding of glaciers like Sunbai was discussed. 

Overall, the trekking was enjoyed by all participants and was successful in the accomplishment of its aim and objective. The programme ended with vote of thanks by Prof. Anuradha Sharma, HoD Dept. of Environmental Sciences.
