GDC Doda organizes awareness lecture on E-waste Management

Doda::Green Rangers Ecoclub of the Department of Environmental Sciences and NSS unit of GDC Doda in collaboration with Global Human Rights Trust (NGO) organized an awareness lecture on the management of electronic waste. The event was organized under the able guidance and patronage of Dr. Attar Singh Kotwal, Principal of the college.
The session began with the welcome address by Dr. Sumit Kotwal, Head, Department of Environmental Sciences, GDC Doda. He apprised the audience about the harmful effects of e-waste and measures needed to avoid the generation of e-waste. He further stressed upon the importance of awareness drives in the management and control of e-waste. Mr. Imran Lone, District Coordinator of the E-waste awareness project of Global Human Rights Trust, delivered a keynote lecture and spoke at length about the environmental degradation resulting from electronic waste.
He further made the student audience aware about the various E-waste management practices that will be followed in the UT of Jammu & Kashmir in near future. It was followed by an address by Principal of college who enlightened the students about the problems arising due to e-waste and motivated them to start their own start-up for e-waste collection and create job opportunities for themselves.
The event was anchored by Atya Tabassum, NSS volunteer of 5th Semester. The formal vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Sumit Kotwal, Programme Officer, NSS. The faculty members namely Prof. Akrity Parihar, Prof. Purnima Manhas, Prof. Upma Kumari, Prof. Amit Kumar, Prof. Tabassum Saleem and Prof. Preeti Devi also, attended this awareness session.
