GDC Chatroo organises Story Writing Competition.

Doda::In order to provide a platform to the students to hone their creative and ingenious abilities, the Department of English GDC Chatroo organised a two week long intra-college story writing competition.
The initiative was planned and managed by Dr Jamsheed Ahmad Head Department of English and the whole exercise was held under the direct supervision of the principal of the college Dr Shafqat Hussain Rafiqi.
The flyer for the event was released by Dr Ashaq Hussain on 8 April 2022 and the entries were accepted till 21 April 2022.
With an overwhelming and avid response from the students around 30 stories were recieved by the organisers.
In order to maintain the highest degree of impartiality and transparency, the stories were shortlisted and then evaluated through a blind review.
While talking to this correspondent the chief organiser Dr Jamsheed Ahmad said, "We earnestly intend to provide an opportunity to the students of this far flung college to showcase their talents in different fields. With this purpose our college organises different academic and co curricular activities through out the session". He further added that the department strongly believes that such competitions shall encourage the students to get involved in literary activities and shall further help them to study and learn English language.
The team of judges for the competition comprised of a senior college professor from Jammu and Kashmir and a short story writer from New Delhi.
Sangeeta Devi and Mohd Amir Reshi from Semester 2nd secured third and second prize respectively whereas the first prize was bagged by Majid Ahmed from semester 3rd.
The prize distribution ceremony was held on 23 April 2021 which is celebrated as World English Language Day throughout the globe. The winners were awarded with mementoes and merit certificates.
In his message the convener of the event Dr Ashaq Hussain congratulated Dr Ahmad for this unique initiative and expressed his satisfaction on the successful completion of the programme.
