International Women's Day Observed at GDC Chatroo

Doda(Chatroo) In order to mobilize the sustained community participation in women empowerment and to celebrate the social, economic and political achievements of women the Women Development Cell of GDC Chatroo observed International Women's Day under the theme "Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow".
The day which was observed under the guidance of Dr Shafqat Hussain Rafiqi Principal GDC Chatroo started with an introductory lecture by Dr Jamsheed Ahmad Convener Women Development Cell and the Chief Organiser of the event. He stressed upon the historical importance of the day and stated that it is not only an occasion to celebrate the progress made towards achieving gender equality and women's empowerment but also to critically reflect on those accomplishments and strive for a greater momentum towards gender equality worldwide.
The main highlight of the day was a field visit to village Udeel Gujran. The students were divided into various groups and were led by Prof Ajeet Kumar, Prof Waseem, Prof Chering Dorjee, Dr J V Manhas, Prof Chander Prakash, Dr Muddasser Nazar and Dr Shabir Ahmad. The female non teaching staff namely Ms Subra, Ms Aroosa and Ms Ansioua too accompanied the students. They went door to door and interacted with the women folk and small children. They highlighted the issues like women rights, girl child education and personal health and hygiene.
The students presented notebooks, pencils, sharpeners and erasers to the children.
The day ended with a small valedictory function in which the girl students who secured first postions in the recently declared results were felicitated.
